Summertime is so draining on the kids.
BBQ’s, swimming, playing in the sand, at the lake, running around outside, riding bikes …. there are a lot of things that we try to pack into the day. We don’t want to waste the good weather by sitting inside, or just chilling. We want to catch up with friends, drink white wine while we sit in the sun, eating cheese and crackers, and staying up late because the sun is still up. It’s a fun time of year, and I absolutely LOVE it, but today I am grateful that the weather is colder.
Today, as we woke, there was a fresh layer of snow on the mountains around us, the wind is brisk and cold, and the clouds streak by, the day alternating between fine, cloudy and down-right miserable. So today is an inside day, it’s a day for movies, for playing with Lego, and for doing nothing …. The kids are absolutely loving the downtime. There has been only limited squabbling, and there is a peace as we are all just taking a deep breath and relaxing.
Bad weather, is turning out to be a good, happy thing for our day today … of course we have organised to have people here for a BBQ this evening, so the peace won’t last, but I’ll take it while I’ve got it.
