It’s that season, or time, or maybe it’s just about time, but the dreaded tummy bug has descended on our home, albeit only one has succumbed at this point. And it means bedding changes, carrying around a bowl for those sudden upsets, and miserable faces as they don’t really understand why they are so sick.
Tips to get through it:
1. If it’s in your area, school, or preschool – be prepared. Check the medicine cupboard for those child friendly medicines to bring down the fever.
2. Work as a team with your partner or a friend, so that you can juggle the time off work, and still get your other children to their sports practices and commitments.
3. Bribe them! Seriously, our children get $1 every time they are sick in the bowl. Even young children are able to understand this concept, and there is a bit of a reward for them when they are feeling so miserable. And major plus … The cleaning up is easier!
My story through it…
My last two days have included this juggle, with my hubby working in the morning, and then bringing home our pre-schooler and spending the afternoon at home working, while I raced out to a final rehearsal for the high school show I’m choreographing. A friend helped with delivering my daughter to her jazz class, and I had my son organise himself to wait outside the swimming pool for me when I needed to pick him up.
Today, is going to be a similar juggle. I have put a halt to the swimming lessons at lunchtime today, obviously we don’t need a tummy-bug-infested child in the pool, and organised hubby to pick up our pre-schooler and deliver him to me, where I’m auditioning kids for another dance opportunity. My son, is probably past the worst of his bug, but hasn’t eaten anything in two days, and the fever only broke in the night so another day at home will be good for him, and he’ll be well enough, fingers-crossed to come with me this afternoon. When he wakes up, asking for $2 cause he managed to be sick twice in the bowl through the night, I’m guessing he’s on the way up.
With a 5 year old birthday party coming up in four days though I’m hoping that the other kids don’t fall prey to the bug. Wish me luck!
