So tomorrow morning I’m off on a 5 hour drive to compete in an ‘all women’s adventure race’ – it’s a strange feeling to be packing solely for me, thinking only about myself, my nutrition, my clothing, my training, and my preparation.
Of course the family is coming along to support and cheer me on, but my mind is caught up more in the things that I am doing, rather than putting too much effort and thought into what my family will be doing while I am running, and biking around mountains in the middle of nowhere. It has made me very aware that I don’t think only of myself very often at all!
As mums we are really good at thinking of everyone else, and organising everyone else, and it is a hard thing to turn off, and turn it back to just ourselves.
This adventure of mine has been in the planning, for over 6 months, and I wonder if there is anything out there that you are planning on doing that is just for you? Or is there anything out there that you have put off planning to do, because it is something that is just for you.
There should be no guilt in taking a day, or a weekend, and letting everything else go, and be in the moment doing your thing… we spend a lot of other days and weekends thinking of our families!
