One of the things I hear the most is that we are all struggling with the fact that our kids just DON”T LISTEN.
In a perfect world we would tell our children to do something once and they would do it.
In a perfect world we would have taken the time to teach our children what it is to listen the first time we ask.
In a perfect world we would demonstrate ourselves what it is to listen and do something the first time we are asked to.
In a perfect world, when our child calls our name we would respond and be available to whatever it is that they want to say to us, and we would respond immediately.
In a perfect world we would remember what our children ask us to do the first time they ask, rather than them repeat it again and again, with increasing volume.
In a perfect world we would stop playing with our toys (phones, computers, newspaper, TV) and pay immediate attention when we are spoken to.
In a perfect world, if we are in the middle of an important conversation with our children, and the phone rings, we would NOT be distracted by it’s sound and answer it.
Be careful with the things that irritate you in regards to your children, it is VERY possible that these are the same behaviours that you show towards them, and the world at large.
