The plan for the day is set.
The kids are excited.
Christmas shopping is about to commence.
Normally I am a little more organised than this, but the trip to the North Island and the call of the cheaper malls and varied options for shopping means that I was happy (sort-of) to wait.
Getting to the shops early is key, having a plan crucial, an end-game needed just for sanity. So in my world that means
- getting to the shops just as they open – get in and out before the lines start.
- choosing only 1 or 2 shops in any one trip
- a list helps a LOT – kids need to know who they are looking for presents for, otherwise they’ll be looking for presents for themselves
- give the kids some credit for coming up with good ideas – if they are completely on the wrong track gently steer them in a different direction OR add something more appropriate to what they’ve chosen
We survived our trip, kids are happy, and I was pleasantly surprised. What are some tips you use for Christmas shopping with the kids?
