So, the first day of Summer has been and gone. The month of December already upon us and yet … I see more stress and frustration in the faces of people I pass during the day.
Granted, the weather isn’t exactly Summer-like yet, and these are busy times, with social gatherings, jobs to do, and potentially the stress of family visiting, or going to visit family, looming in the minds of us all.
We are not immune in our house either. Busy times, big opportunities over the next week or two, and the never-ending list of things to do, people to see, parcels to buy, and time at a premium.
The thing is, we are never getting ahead if we are constantly fretting and worrying. It is tempting to get into this state as it makes us feel efficient, and so good with all our multi-tasking. But… This is NOT good for us, for our bodies, for our mental peace. If we want to get to Christmas relaxed and able to enjoy it, we need to do some things different.
We need to take some time. Enjoy the fact that there are people about, feed off the energy but leave the stress behind. For those of us with a more introverted personality, take the time now to do some online shopping, so you don’t have to be drained by all the people if you leave it for the last minute. For those of us who love being in the mix, write a list, be clear on what you want, and then give yourself plenty of time for delays, so that you don’t stress.
If Christmas, or December in general, has typically been a stressful time for you, try and think of ways you can do it different this year. And most importantly – smile – even if the kids are nagging, the house is a mess – find some fleeting happiness in your day and smile!
