This morning I am sitting in my local cafe, tapping away on my computer.
I had two options, I could go home and carry on from the stresses of yesterday, or I could take some time and have a wee celebration for all I have already done this morning and this week.
My morning was busy. I was up at 5.30am and quickly made my way through some exercise, yoga, journaling before the kids were all up – this is the space I create for myself before the children wake around 6.30am. It’s an important part of my day, before Mum time starts.
The next hour is about the kids, although I did manage a quick shower as well, before I was off to the school drop off. There was a lot from my list from yesterday that I didn’t get done, so in my mind I was going to race home and get to it …. Or maybe NOT!
This is the point – if I had gone home I would probably have continued with my crazy busy morning, continuing from my meetings yesterday, rushing around at breakneck speed, or I would have gone home and crashed. I have been doing a lot this week, and it had been particularly stressful, and here I was planning on carrying on just the same… then I remembered that special thing that I like to talk about a LOT – MUM GLOW …. I was losing mine and forgetting about my own goals about being less growly at my kids.
I needed some time just for me.
Just to celebrate myself as a mum, as a woman, as a wife, as a person… Off to a café for a coffee, and a wee treat, an energy boost to be around all these people coming and going, and to appreciate myself in some semblance of stillness.
Why do we deny ourselves?
I am now settled, calm, my equilibrium is back, and I’m not wearing myself out, and denying myself. Every day we should celebrate something in our life. I don’t mean with a bought coffee every morning, but a wee something, where the intention is ‘celebratory’.
It could be five minutes longer in the shower, or sitting with a good book for half an hour. It may even mean closing off the computer at 5pm and not checking back in with Facebook, or other social media, or cuddling up on the couch in front of the fire, or in the sun with a movie on the TV. There are lots of ways to have a wee celebratory intention, and take time for ourselves.
What are you doing today to celebrate you?
