So today I’m not ‘playing’ mother of the year.
I am happily lying on the couch, with snacks and a glass of wine. The TV is on, and I’m ignoring my kids ….
It’s wintery outside, and this is the first day off we’ve had in a long time, but the kids are happily playing, and therefore I’m happy.
Happy that I’m being lazy.
Happy that I’m not organizing washing or tidying or cleaning.
Happy that I’m not playing taxi-driver.
Happy that it’s a different kind of day.
When you get an unexpected day like this, it’s often good just to let it be. Don’t try and fill it. Don’t try and force kids into doing extra things. Just let them be happy doing nothing or everything – as a couple of my kids do – and as long as they are happy then so will you be.
