When the kids are run down, and I’m tempted to just talk everything out and try and get to the bottom of a problem, I remind myself of this.
Sometimes a hug is enough.
No talking, no berating, no questioning. Just a basic hug and then send them on their way again.
We can get all caught up in trying to solve a problem. We can get all caught up in this ‘communication’ thing. For kids – a hug is communicating. It’s communicating without pressure. It’s important for bonding, it’s important for your relationship with your kid, and it’s a good reminder for us.
Particularly if you have an introverted child – they will feel like your relationship is growing and supportive with an un-stressful hug.
My kids look at me sideways, like I’m crazy, but they do it with a smile on their faces.
Try it out today xx.
