While I am still enjoying the school holidays, my mind has inevitably started to look forward to next week – school-days are coming…..
Am I organised?
Is there any important things I need to do before the weekend in preparation for the week ahead?
Are there any important jobs that I’d planned for the holidays that haven’t happened yet?
……. All these questions, and more, start to rattle around in my mind, but it’s important to NOT let these thoughts become too consuming that you forget to enjoy the last restful days of the holiday.
I am definitely guilty of organizing to the detriment of fun, and it’s a constant challenge to keep relaxed, and to keep a lid on over-doing things for myself and the kids.
Do you start organizing before you need to?
How do you keep the organizing monster at bay so that the kids can enjoy themselves rather than stress in the lead-up to school?
The trick for me is to keep my initial organizing squarely relating to my own things. Like my own wardrobe, or my own lists for stuff I need to get done, like bills, or lists for next week … I really try to keep my building anticipation for the week ahead purely in my own mind, so as not to worry or disrupt my kids playing and relaxing.
Two days out from school starting again, I start to talk to the kids about the upcoming term and about what is happening with school bags, and after school activities. Two days preparation gives my kids enough time to feel prepared, as well as not enough time to worry.
That’s my tip for the upcoming couple of days – what tips do you have for getting ready for school days?
