This is a trick question.
Mumglow isn’t something that you can search high and low for, it’s the thing that’s in you that fills you up. And it’s not always obvious, but if you can start the day with something that fills you up with Mumglow then you are starting the day the right way.
Here is an example of what I mean:
This morning I woke up early, rolled out of bed with concrete filled eyes and zero energy at 5.30am. Seemingly crazy, and not an obvious feeling for Mumglow, and yet I felt so wonderful having that quiet time to write and ‘be’ in the pre-dawn, with all the children still sleeping.
I start my day much calmer, much more present as a mum if I can get up and do something just for me first thing in the morning.
This is not for everyone, and in fact is probably the most ridiculous thing for most of you to contemplate. In fact for some people it is the sweet aroma of morning coffee that is the happy Mumglow moment of the morning.
For others it could be the 5 minutes of uninterrupted shower time, or the wonderful feeling of snuggling up to your children for a morning book, or even a brisk morning walk with the dog.
Whatever it is that you know makes you feel better in the morning is the thing that you SHOULD be doing every morning. If it makes you feel better, makes it easier to cope, makes the morning flow, and puts a smile on your face then … how can it be wrong?
As mums we definitely talk ourselves out of those moments though. For me, it would have been so easy to roll over and stay snuggled up in bed at 5.30am, but I have learnt that I feel better if I get up, no matter how much my brain tries to trick me into dozing.
I’d love to know what that THING is that gets you going in the morning in a positive direction for your day…
