I admit I was stuck last night.
I needed my 6 year old to go to sleep, and it wasn’t working. Extreme tiredness, hyper energy, and a complient room sharing accomplice. I knew that if they just gave each other 5 minutes quiet then they would how to sleep but it wasn’t happening.
Until, during part of my talking to my boys when my 6 year old says to me, “If I don’t go to sleep are you not going to let me play on the Kids Computer?”
This is currency in our home at the moment. After weeks of non-interest in the computer it’s now the thing they fear losing access to the most.
I had been handed my leverage on a plate, by an adorably impulsive 6 year old that hadn’t realised he’d just given me his own consequence for not sleeping.
Within 10 minutes both boys were asleep.
Take the time to hear what your kids say. They often unintentionally help us in our parenting, we just need to be open to hearing it.
