I have a strong feeling that the Christmas tree should go up on the 1st of December. Maybe it’s because we always seem to be traveling for Christmas, and I feel the need to get in my Christmas fix before we go, or maybe it’s simply because I LOVE Christmas, and want to do it as soon as possible.
When I start with the decorating, I pretty much decide on a colour theme for the year, and also what parts of the house I’m going to decorate. I don’t do the whole house.
Decorating can seem like hard work, but a couple of simple things can really bring in the Christmas spirit.
This year I’ve picked gold as a colour (last year I had silver and red), and so my wrapping paper has a gold theme, and if I head into the $2 Shop or the Hospice or a department store or something, I keep my eye out for anything festive with the gold idea. It doesn’t mean that last years tinsel and baubles can’t be used on the tree – kids like to put everything possible on, but I focus everything else on my colour, and that tends to bring out the gold in the tree ornaments anyway.
Kids enjoy being involved in these traditions, and the family time in the evening when you turn the lights on the tree on can become really special times.
Traditions is the name of the game this week, so I’d love to hear what your family traditions are in the lead up to Christmas.
