I love being organised for Christmas and I love the idea of developing traditions in my family.
This idea of wrapping parcels early is really important for me to help bring about anticipation and excitement in the lead up to Christmas. I love the idea of my kids thinking about what they can give to others, and wrapping their parcels, and then placing them out under the tree, or in the lounge waiting for Christmas.
There are some things that should wait until the last minute to put out, especially if they are easy to guess, or are big presents, or food presents. But the little ones, the wider family ones, like cousins, and aunties, they can be wrapped early and displayed.
If you have a young child who would get into their parcels and open them at the first opportunity, they maybe you don’t put their parcels out until they understand the process. But if Great-Aunty Joan’s parcel is accidentally opened by a wee child it’s not going to be the end of the world, and it’s a great opportunity for your young child to learn about waiting, and not getting everything when they want it.
Think about the pre-Christmas traditions that you want to develop in your family – what could you develop this week?
