One of the reasons that we get down, and irritated, grumpy and upset with our children is because we are not looking after ourselves.
I know that it doesn’t seem like that. I know that it seems like it is actually the kids that are driving you crazy. I know that it seems like that it’s actually the kids arguing, the fighting, the not doing what they are told, and the general messiness that they never seem to clean up. That’s actually the reason that you are grumpy and angry.
But it’s not. Not really.
Because sometimes we cope better with that stuff. Sometimes we don’t lose our rag when our kids don’t tidy their room. Sometimes we don’t get angry when the kids are fighting.
Sometimes we stay calm, sometimes we just ask them to do it again, and build in a consequence. Sometimes we just send them outside when they are fighting. Sometimes it doesn’t effect us.
So, when it DOES effect us we have to ask ourselves, why?
My answer to this is Mum Glow.
If we are looking after our energy. Looking after our own needs, yes, I mean being a little selfish! Then we cope better. Our Mum Glow cup is full, and we react differently then when we are scraping the bottom of the barrel for energy and coping strategies.
“Mum Glow” is a term I use to describe those mums that seem to have it all together as they do the school pick up, the groceries, the side of the sports field. It’s an energy and serenity that you can see in mums when everything in their life is moving in flow, and with ease.
That’s the goal. We should all feel like our lives are in flow. We should all feel like things are easy, and doable, and enjoyable. And it comes down to prioritizing us.
This doesn’t look the same for everyone. I have friends that need downtime; reading, craft, art, sewing. I need other things, like interaction, stimulation, achievement , but the goal is the same, even though these things look different.
One mistake we make is thinking that there are only one or two things that work for us, or suit us. If you are feeling energy-less, and struggling to get out of the slump, I can work with you on your energy, and through identifying your personality preferences can give you some great extra solutions that you may not have thought of – no drugs necessary.
Today, I’m prioritizing me on one of my favorite things to do – going to the local A&P show. I used to go to the Fielddays as a child and loved it. I still love that feeling, and would happily just go and immerse myself in the massive stimulation that these shows bring. Going with a girlfriend today, no kids, fun adult time, and going to catch up with an old school friend too. Happy times!
Have a wonderful upcoming weekend xx.
