Stress is a word that’s been bandied around for years now. It’s almost like a catch phrase, and it’s rare to come across someone that ISN’T spouting on about how stressed they are in some area of their life.
I’m guilty of that too.
But because it’s such a common thing now, it’s also rare that we actually think too hard about it.
- coping mechanisms
- our health
- our mindset
- our confidence
- our conversations
- our ability to work
- our ability to play
- how we relax
- how we spend our free time
And all of this can affect our parenting!
Even if we think that we are only stressed at work, it does come back and infiltrate lots of other areas of our lives.
So, if it affects everything and we aren’t coming up with a cure for stress right now, why bring it up? Why talk about it?
We actually have a scary ability to cope with a lot of stress before we think it affects us badly, and so we often think that we are coping, even when we are not. The only thing I really want to bring to your attention today is AWARENESS.
Be AWARE that stress may be impacting on how you raise your kids.
Be AWARE that you might not be able to cope with some behaviours, not because of the kids, but because you are stressed by other stuff.
AWARENESS of how stress can affect your parenting decisions helps you make better decisions. By noticing if your voice is sharper, or grumpier, then it usually is, can help you remember to take a breath and tune back in to what is actually important.
